Here at Somebody Cares Tampa Bay we want to take the time to recognize the people and organizations that partner with us. Each month we will take a moment to share with you one of our partners and what they do.
Thank you, Second Image Thrift Store. You are our March Partner Spotlight!
Our history with Second Image goes back 20 years to the original owner, now retired, Helen Hecht. Mrs. Hecht had a heart for Somebody Cares Tampa Bay and offered an opportunity for SCTB to receive support through her thrift store. Since then, Second Image has faithfully shared a percentage of our clothing bin donations through the years.
2020 marks an expanded partnership. Second Image is now a monthly partner with SCTB. Owner Kevin Hecht, Mrs. Hecht’s son, has also opened up a new opportunity for our friends.
Friends of SCTB can contact us if they have furniture or appliances that require pick-up. We can arrange the pick-up with Second Image. If the goods are in saleable condition, Second Image will haul them at no cost!
Second Image Thrift Store not only provides support to Somebody Cares, but they provide a service to our community that sets them apart from other thrift stores.
Sharmin, the operations manager, shares how Second Image considers the needs of the customer. “We keep things very organized. All our clothes are separated and sorted. If you come in for a red polo, you will know within seconds whether we have one in your size.” By providing a well-ordered store, Second Image caters to busy people who don’t have hours to spare in order to hunt for a pair of jeans.
Sharmin adds, “What most people don’t know is that we put out 1100 new items every day! Blouses, shoes, kitchen ware, purses…and many items still have tags.” Not everything is used at Second Image. Sharmin noted some of the tags she saw as she walked through the store: “White House/Black Market, Loft, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, J Crew, Jones New York…”
One Google reviewer had this to say about Second Image:
If I could grant more than 5 stars, I'd give the absolute maximum! I consider myself to be a 'consignment connoisseur.' I have sought out and visited almost every thrift store in the county, and I can say that Second Image is one of the best I have been to…After learning that I was a teacher, Second Image made an item donation to my classroom that had me in tears! It was obvious that they not only value their customers, but also value their community…
Second Image also backs their electronic items with a warranty. You’ll find furniture, a vintage section, men’s and women’s plus sizes, a maternity section, scrubs, leather goods and, according to store manager, Pam, “lots of jewelry.” She observes, “We are one of the few thrift stores that don’t hold back high-quality goods to sell to a third party.”
Pam adds that one of their best features is their Super Sale. “Every other Wednesday, clothes and select departments are on sale. But we understand people work, so we wanted to give those people a chance to save, too. So, our sale repeats on that same Saturday.” Each department goes on sale once per month. (During the month of March, Super Sale dates are March 11th and 25th.)
With attention to detail, presentation, and merchandise quality control, customer care begins before the customer arrives at the store. We consider our Spotlight Partner, Second Image Thrift Stores, the affordable boutique.
